The naturalist was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to. Learned alot about whales but did not get to see any. Enjoyed the ship ride for 2 mornings!

This cruise is excellent!! Took our 2 young children and they loved it as well. The outside deck is awesome for just waiting for whales and seeing all the views of Waikiki. We saw a few whales and everyone had an enjoyable time. Staff on the boat are also very friendly.

We saw 2 whales, but no other sea life. The boat was fairly smooth. The staff was nice. The naturalist Renee was good and had great information on whales.

Had an amazing experience! Saw a whale calf and its mother, both breached and it was incredible. Definitely worth the price, very friendly staff. We took the tour in January and saw multiple whales in other parts of Hawaii as well, but the experience provided by the Star of Honolulu was unforgettable.

It was too commercialized for us. We did see 1 whale breach though. It felt more like a riverboat casino than a whale watching tour .

Early Bird Whale-Watching Cruise from Waikiki Oahu Not Our First Tour on the Star of Honolulu, But It is Our Last 825540725 My husband and I have taken whale watching cruises with the lunch buffet, I believe in January 2019 and January 2020, as well as a dinner cruise some years ago, on the Star of Honolulu. We had such positive experiences that we decided to take another whale watching cruise during our recent visit to Honolulu. We made reservations for Saturday, January 15. We did not take the breakfast option, preferring to have breakfast at our hotel. When we arrived to check in that morning, we asked if masking was strictly enforced on the boat. Since such mitigation measures were outlined on the company's own website, we were assured that masking was enforced. When we boarded the boat, we immediately observed passengers who were walking around unmasked, not just those still eating breakfast. We asked a young female crew member if masking would be enforced during the cruise. She seemed not to understand the question, but said the Captain would speak with us after the pre-cruise announcements. As we waited for the start of the announcements, we noticed new passengers boarding who were not masked and were not having breakfast. When the Captain spoke about the masking requirement, laughter was evident from many of the unmasked passengers near us, some shaking their heads in disbelief as they laughed. The Captain did come over to speak to my husband and me after his announcements. When asked if masking would be strictly enforced, he avoided any kind of affirmative response, indicating that it was expected by not really enforced, even when passengers would be out on the deck during whale sightings. We have been in the cluster of passengers out on the deck during the whale sightings. Without mandating masks and distancing, the risk of exposure to COVID would be high in those clusters. We decided to leave without taking the cruise since enforcement of corporate policy on mitigation efforts would not occur. We were asked in an email from the Star of Honolulu to leave a review on Trip Advisor. We bought our tickets directly from the cruise line because of our positive past experiences. We will not cruise with them again.

Lots of whale spouts and some good whale sighting including a tail and one spouted and arched so close to the front of the boat that it surprised me where I was at the very front position. It looked like I could hop on and ride! Spinner dolphins close and frisky/ playful gave us a good show.
